A Copiague man is accused of impersonating a cop to scam men out of money at LIRR park-and-ride lots.
Police say 35-year-old Peter Cordero would approach men who were at the lots for sex, flash a fake badge and threaten to arrest them unless they paid him $500. Authorities say he even had a red light in his car and a laptop. Cordero currently faces charges in two incidents. The men he approached in those instances refused to pay up, but police say Cordero has admitted to pulling the scheme on other people.
Police ask anyone who was approached by Cordero or paid him to contact them at Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
