There is growing controversy over a new plan to build an 82,000-square-foot sports facility in Mattituck.
The developer's plan is to build the facility off of Main Road on what is now 21 acres of vacant land. The facility would include indoor and outdoor fields, as well as a swimming pool.
The developers say the facility is much-needed and would be the only one of its kind in the area.
However, some business owners are concerned that the plan will hurt small businesses, degrade quality of life and increase traffic.
The project developers say they are working with the town on ways to limit noise, including by adding noise barriers to their plans and conducting a traffic flow study.
A special zoning permit would be needed to build the complex. Developers plan to apply for the permit next month.
