Construction work began Thursday on Nassau County's first cricket stadium at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow.
The sporting arena is being built for the T20 Cricket World Cup in June.
"This stadium will be bigger and larger than any cricket stadium in the United Kingdom," says T20 Cricket World Cup Development Director Don Lockerbie.
The stadium will seat 34,000 fans, locally and from across the world.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman added, "What an opportunity for Nassau County to showcase to over a billion people throughout the world."
Officials say at least eight cricket matches will be played at the new Eisenhower Park stadium from June 3 through June 12.
