Residents at a NYCHA apartment building in Coney Island say they’re still dealing with on-and-off water shutoffs and the aftermath left behind. There is a video showing water flooding the street and a resident commenting they had been without water for 24 hours.
Tenants at the O'dway Gardens Houses told News 12 they experienced cloudy and dirty water after service was restored, along with ongoing plumbing issues.
Some residents say this isn’t the first time they’ve had to deal with inconsistent water service, adding that they often receive no warning before the water is turned off.
Tenant Association president Sheila Smalls says the building’s management set up a temporary water station nearby to help residents during the outage.
News 12 reached out to NYCHA, and it released the following statement:
"Buildings at O'Dwyer Gardens were affected by a water main break this morning, resulting in an unplanned water service outage. NYCHA staff have since made the necessary repairs, restoring water service to the development, and are in the process of connecting with residents following the disruption in service.”
