The Port Jefferson Moose Lodge in Mount Sinai held fundraising event Saturday for the Fortunato Breast Health Center. Inside the lodge, Patricia Gallagher, of Miller Place, raised money to help people who are batting breast cancer. “I'm a Moose Lodge member. I'm also a cancer survivor. I had stage 3 breast cancer seven years ago," Gallagher said. Gallagher is one of many who are raising money for Northwell Mather Hospital’s 5-mile health walk in May. “The Fortunato Breast Health Center sees thousands of women each year for better breast health," said Laura Juliano, with Northwell Mather Hospital. Saturday night’s fundraising event was called “A Night at the Races.” People place bets on horse races, participated in raffles, and spun the wheel of fortune. All the money raised will go to the breast health center at Mather. Gallagher said she's been in remission for seven years. “Everyone knows someone who has it, and these walks are going to help people emotionally even more than financially," she said. Gallagher added that she will be walking in May for the event. The event raised nearly $7,000 last year, sponsoring people in the walk. They hope to top that this year. The five-mile walk is Sunday May 18 and will go through the villages of Port Jefferson and Belle Terre.
