Cold Spring Hills Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation on Saturday announced it no longer plans to move forward with the immediate evacuation of its residents, according to an attorney for the nursing home.

News 12 first reported in 2020 about union health care workers at the facilities' fight to avoid layoffs. Workers and residents were told in December 2024 the facility may suddenly shut down.

The decision comes after a Nassau County judge reached a decision back in December on the attorney general's emergency injunction to keep the facility open if the two sides couldn't come to a compromise.

The judge ruled the nursing home must stay open and residents will not be displaced.

The state's attorney general filed paperwork to prevent Cold Spring Hills Nursing Home from shutting down, calling it illegal.

“The owners of Cold Spring Hills’ attempt to endanger vulnerable residents and lay off their workers just days before the holidays was not only insensitive, it was illegal," said Attorney General Letitia James.

A hearing for a possible extension is set for Jan. 22.

The facility also filed for bankruptcy protection on Jan. 2.
