Cirque du Soleil is bringing its signature spectacle to Manhattan this season with "'Twas the Night Before...,"which is now taking over The Theater at Madison Square Garden for a limited holiday run.
Company manager Heather Reilly, who has spent 24 years with Cirque, says the production adds a new layer of magic to a city already overflowing with holiday spirit.
"We've taken 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, that many people know and we've circus-fied it," said Reilly. "Each of the acts represent that part of that story."
The show centers on Isabella, a teenage girl searching for holiday spirit.
Her journey unfolds through a series of gravity-defying acts. From mid-air acrobatics to high-velocity stunts, each one pushing the boundaries of how this classic tale can be told, performed by a cast of 26 artists from all over the world.
Among the fan favorites is the diabolo act, where performers master a spinning prop with precision and speed.
The show also features lovable characters and a soundtrack including Christmas favorites reinvented by Cirque du Soleil.
The production also features a show-stopping roller-skating duo, Italian siblings and fifth-generation circus performers, who say performing in New York City is a dream come true.
Their routine, built entirely on trust, involves spinning each other by the neck at breathtaking speeds.
"'Twas the Nigh Before..." runs through Dec. 28 at The Theater at MSG.
