Southampton Town Supervisor Patrick "Skip" Heaney was defeated in the Republican primary by former political ally and Southampton Town Councilwoman Linda Kabot Tuesday.
With all 42 precincts reporting, 1,531 ballots were cast for Kabot, good for 53 percent of the vote. Heaney received 1,359 votes, or 47 percent.
"I think the combination of, one, a low voter turnout and perhaps some lingering concerns about a reassessment that went somewhat wrong a year and a half ago have contributed to an outcome that some might say is unfair," Heaney said. "Often times in life it's not good enough to be right on issues."
Heaney, a three-term supervisor who will stay on the November ballot with the Conservative Party, was also defeated for the Independent nomination. Alexander Gregor will represent the Independent line after receiving 67 percent of the vote.
