Cardinal Timothy Dolan paid tribute to fallen NYPD Detective Jonathan Diller during his Easter homily at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Sunday.

Dolan reflected on the loss felt by Diller’s family, friends and fellow members of law enforcement as he was laid to rest over the weekend.

"Officer Jonathan Diller. A good, decent, innocent, loyal, honorable man, who believed that the lives of those he was sworn to protect were worth even more than his own,” said Dolan.

Dolan said the pain felt by Diller’s loved ones is similar to Jesus’s pain when he was crucified. He ended the sermon with a message of hope, saying that difficult times only make people stronger.
