If you're planning out your summer calendar, you have to make room for a visit to Kara Moore Center for the Arts in Katona. This is such a gem here in the Hudson Valley. So let's get right to news 12, Lisa La Rock. She's there on this Friday morning, showcasing this fabulous local spot. Good morning, Lisa. Oh, good morning guys. This is absolutely stunning here. It's 80 acres. Five different venues. This is the 79th year. They're about to kick off the summer season. Absolutely stunning. So I want to introduce you to Jessa Crick. She's the Director of Interpretation Collection and Archives for the Rosen House, which is the historic house. We were going to start there this morning, but we pulled in and the lighting, everything was so gorgeous. They said we've got to share this with our viewers just to see what it looks like before the sun comes up. So thank you for having us here. Tell us a little bit about Kamo for people who've never been here. What exactly is Kamo? Well, Lisa, welcome. Thank you so much for coming to Caramoor this morning. This is Westchester County's premier music destination. For outdoor concerts and extend the season into the music room in the historic Rosen House. We are a historic site but we are also a venue for, with five different musical stages and we program music of all different genres here including all day festivals. And we're so excited to start our 79th season this summer. I mean, I'm looking around just and Danny, if we could just pin right there, that's just one of the venues of you see that field right there and that's called Friends Field. So just imagine coming and listening to music. So this is where you like spread out a picnic blanket. You spend some time. Right. Absolutely. This is really family friendly people, bring their picnics, they dance. Um, whole groups of parties are here to celebrate different special occasions. It's really one of our, uh, really fantastic, um, venues here and this was, by the way, guys, we're, we're just gonna wrap this one up. Um This thing is fairly new. They built this during COVID. So, right. So this is fairly new. So there is a lot more to see, like we said, 80 acres. So stay with us here at Kamo in Katona. Absolutely gorgeous. I'm excited to show you all of it guys. This is just a gem here in the Hudson Valley and that's my news shows, Lisa Lara is there. She's gonna be live all morning showcasing this local spot, Lisa. Just gorgeous. What lighting you have right there? My goodness. Oh my gosh. I know. I, I tell you what, this is actually my first time coming here. We were here. I don't know about 35 seconds and I was like, ok, I'm officially in love. It is absolutely stunning here. Let me introduce you to Edward Lewis. He is the CEO and president here of Kamo. How cool is your job? It's the best job in the world. This is your office. This is where you come, especially in the summer. You know we're outside all summer long. So gorgeous. Thank you for having us. Oh, I love it. So tell everybody who people who have never been here like myself and I can't shame on me for never coming here. Tell everybody about Kamo and what you offer and what you're all about. Sure. So Kamo has been presenting World Class live music since 1946. And this year marks our 79th summer season. A so Caro's for everyone, when the founders set up the nonprofit, they open caremore for the public to come, leave the world behind and just enjoy the nature, beauty and lots of music. We have a broad variety of genres of music. Here, we do classical chamber music, opera, orchestral, jazz, American roots, broad, good way, global music. We have children's concerts and this year we're bringing dance back to care more. And of course, you have your big fourth of July. So I mean, just imagine sitting in this field, there's 80 acres here, fireworks over the top. I mean, there's needs like July 4th on actual July 4th, we have our pops patriots and fire works. We're bringing fireworks back this year with the Westchester Symphonic Wind. So I encourage you to get your tickets now. Yeah. Very good. Thank you so much for having us. Sending out your summer calendar. Well, you have to make room for a visit to Kore Center for the Arts over in Katona. It is really just a gem here in the Hudson Valley and news host, Lisa La Rock is lucky enough to be there on a Friday morning to showcase this fabulous spot. Lisa. Where are you this time? So beautiful. Yeah. You know, there's 80 acres here to explore and you know, every spot we go to one spot is more beautiful than the next. So, Ed is back with us again. He is the President's CEO here at camera and again, like I said, you have the coolest job this you get to come here every day. It's so great. Yeah, it's a great place to be. Our grounds are open Thursday through Sunday, 10 to 4 and two hours before each concert. So I encourage folks to come and leave the world behind and explore our beautiful gardens and grounds. And here we are at the head of Cedar walk. Yeah, let's talk about, tell everybody about this. We are. Yeah, Cedar walk is one of our most beautiful spots here. This alley of cedars leads you to the Juliet gate through the Juliet Gate is the sunken garden, which we're going to go visit in a little bit. Exactly. And you can enjoy some of our, one of a kind sound art collection along the way with chime and we've got some hammocks back there. Yeah, I mean, you can come and like I was saying, you know, there's so many, you have so many events happening throughout the summer. You know, it's all about the music but you know, you may want to come, like I would want to come on a day where there's no crowds just so I could just kind of take my time and meander cause it's, it's stunningly beautiful here. Exactly. And about a year ago, we had a performance in the Venetian Theater and it was like 10 minutes of showtime. We couldn't find the artist. Like where's the artist? And we found the artists resting their eyes along the cedar walk in the Hammock. Yeah, I mean, I, and how great is that you can walk around here and just like lay in a Hammock and just, you know, kind of look up at everything. It's just incredible and it really does enhance the, the live music experience here. So coming up, we're gonna go, like I said, there's five different music venues here and we've been showing you some, we're gonna show you the sunken garden next. Wait until you see this place. She's there for us on this Friday morning showcasing this beautiful spot, Lisa so much to offer. Oh my God. I like you. You just don't know where to look first. I mean, one spot is more beautiful than the other. And this is, this is really pretty amazing. The sunken guard. We're back uh with Ed Lewis CEO and president here of Kamo. Wow. Just wow. I mean, and, and you can come here and musicians will play and you just sit in this sunken garden, right? We're in one of the most serene spots on the property and here we will do guitar in the garden, classical guitar in the garden. We also have our series of music and meditation where you come for a performance and you're led in meditation for the 1st 15 minutes, the artists play and you're completely transformed by the time you leave. So you just kind of sit down there. Yeah, you sit down math. I mean, like who, who, if you can't relax in this setting, then you have a problem. Exactly. Your blood pressure goes right down and it's an amazing place to be. This is also a place for site specific work. We've got a great new work coming up the jump up with sandbox production. Yeah. Sandbox. And it is a free community event. And if you're a percussionist, you can come a couple of hours early and practice with, with the band and then you can perform. So it's a great opportunity free and open to the public. So now I have to ask you have these white kind of igloo type looking things in here. What are they? Yeah, this is a new piece of our outdoor sound art. It's called Seismic Grief by Sm Pier. And what she did, she took some of the seismic activity from the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria a couple of years ago with an overlay of music and you can hug them and touch them and you can feel the vibrations of the earthquake. It's absolutely amazing. And that's something that, you know, also is that you do here is this outdoor sound art. So like you said, there are speakers, there's motion kind of thing. So if you're walking and all of a sudden chimes will go off and right along the cedar walk, you can walk up to the sunken garden and on your way up to the garden, the chimes just play and it's just beautiful and you don't see the speakers, they're hidden, you know, in the, in the forest and it's so relaxing. I'm never leaving. I'm never, I'm never, I'm just gonna live, I'm going to set up and live right here. I mean, this is, it's also a great place for weddings too. It's one of our, our bride's favorite spots. How can it imagine up there? I mean, come on. That's pretty amazing. So coming up there's some pretty big festivals all day festivals that are happening here at car where we're gonna go to the big tent. That's where one of the other venues are and we'll talk about it coming up guys. Let's go back to you. Gorgeous here. I see a vow renewal in your future. I think Lisa, what do you say? Twelve's Lisa Lara showcasing what it has to offer, Lisa. It has so much to offer. Like, you know, you get here and you don't know where to go first, but where we are now the big tent, this is the Venetian Theater. Yes, that's what it's called. And that's, and I hear these, the columns over there are actually from Venice. They are original from Venice. Yeah. So what 1300 said 1300 people, 1300 seats here. And I'm so excited. It's our largest covered venue. So even if it rains in one of our outdoor venues, we've got you covered. We bring the performance here and I'm really excited because we open next weekend with Wynton Marcellus and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. And then we've got some big names coming up. We've got Broadway's superstar, Sutton Foster. We've got Grammy Pulitzer Prize, Macarthur Genius Grant winning American Roots artist, Rhiannon Giddens. We've got the renowned Mark Morris dance group coming with live music. Our house band is the orchestra of ST Luke's and they are bringing of their soloist this year, Milos, the fabulous classical guitarist and then Jeremy Denk pianist. We also have the Sphinx virtuosi. It's their first time touring nationally during the summer. It's a conductor less orchestra comprised of some of the top best Black and Latinx classical musicians in the country. They'll be here right on this stage. It's your start with Win Marcellus. I mean, how can you possibly go up from there? And then we've got the famous Baroque Ensemble, Les Os and they'll be bringing Henry Purcell, the Fairy Queen, which is a baroque opera, but infused with a 21st century street dance. So we have something for everyone here. So, really? So this is like the big, this is the big venue and then you have the, so a total five venues and all throughout the 80 acres here. Yes. Amid our beautiful gardens and grounds and some of our sound art which we will hear a signature piece later. Oh, very good. All right. You don't want to miss that. Wait, do you see this thing? So don't go, don't go anywhere at the uh at Kamo. Just wow, just beautiful, beautiful spot, guys. Let's go back to you.
