Residents at a Long Beach senior housing complex spent a fourth day stuck inside their apartments due to a broken elevator.
The tenants have been without elevator service since the weekend. One resident told News 12 Long Island that there have been 67 instances in the last six months when the elevator has not been working. The residents say they are fed up because they are being forced to stay in their apartments. Some say they are handicapped or have other medical conditions that prevent them from using the stairs. Others say they have had to call the fire department in the past for help.
The Long Beach Housing Authority sent a crew to repair the elevator Monday, but says it will not be up and running until Tuesday. The volunteer fire department is on hand to help residents in any way they can.
