'Bullet' found by students in Glen Cove determined to be track-and-field percussion round

Glen Cove police determined a "bullet" found by three students at the high school was actually a round used in track and field.
Officers from the Glen Cove Police Department were searching areas of the Glen Cove High School Thursday around 1:30 p.m. after three students told school administrators they found what they believed to be a bullet on the turf field.
Glen Cove School District administrators contacted local police, who began searching the field and bleachers for any suspicious objects, according to police.
Investigators deemed the area safe, and after looking at the item found by students closely, determined it was actually a percussion round normally used in starting pistols during track-and-field events.
