It was a victory lap for Republicans at Nassau GOP headquarters in Westbury on Thursday following Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman's 12-point win - and now, the groundwork may have already been set for the next campaign.

Blakeman (R-Atlantic Beach) said he is considering a run for governor.

"We're looking at it right now very seriously," Blakeman said.

"Since the election, I've gotten a lot of calls from around the state from business leaders, community leaders, political leaders all urging me to do it," he said. "I'm going to take a couple of weeks, meet with people from around the state, and then I'll come to a decision."

Blakeman bucked historical trends and a cross-country blue wave on Tuesday when he defeated Nassau Legislator Seth Koslow (D-Merrick). A Nassau County executive had not won reelection following their party winning the White House in the previous year since 1993.

"I'm just going to try and be the best county executive I can be, and if I run for governor, I'm very certain I would win," Blakeman said.

News 12 has reached out to the New York State Democratic party for comment on Blakeman's possible run for governor but has not heard back yet.
