Tenants living in 16 different buildings throughout Brooklyn say they soon won't be able to afford their rent when it comes time to renew their leases.
The tenants say the management company, Greenbrook Equity, plans to raise the rent by a whopping 50%.
Aaron Cohen has been renting in Bed-Stuy for a year. He says the new management company is not hearing everyone's concerns.
"They are uncommunicative with us, and the silver lining is it forces us to create our own tenant's coalition and connect with buildings all over the city that are facing the same predatory practices," says Cohen.
Tenants say they want to fight to pass the Good Cause Eviction bill, which would protect tenants against rent hikes and retaliatory evictions.
News 12 reached out to Greenbrook but has not heard back.
