A Sheepshead Bay middle school Science Olympiad team will get to show off their skills at a national level this weekend.

I.S. 98 Bay Academy's Science Olympiad team is heading to the National Science Olympiad Tournament Saturday.

The school is the first New York City public school to compete at this tournament. There are 6,000 middle school Olympiad teams, and only 60 qualify for the competition.

The team says they spent all year competing and studying college-level science topics to get to this point.

"You're motivating other schools to take up this opportunity and go to nationals, too," said competing student George Tatishvili.

The program is part of School's Out New York City program, which is funded by the city Department of Youth and Community Development.
