Brooklyn and Long Island residents are in mourning after the passing of one of the city's bravest - Firefighter William Moon.

Moon was critically injured earlier in the week while at his firehouse in Brooklyn. A dignified transfer is underway Saturday night to NYU Langone where his organs are expected to be donated. Family and friends say Moon devoted his life to saving others and will now continue to do that after his death.

The 47-year-old firefighter had been with the FDNY for 21 years. He spent 20 of those years working for Ladder Co. 133 in Queens.

Moon was a Long Island resident who also served as the chief of the Islip Volunteer Fire Department in 2017.

His latest stop landed him at Rescue Co. 2 in Brooklyn earlier this year. It's there that he fell 20 feet and suffered a serious head injury while preparing for a drill on Monday.

Moon was at Kings County Hospital ever since.

His family made the difficult decision to take him off life support yesterday. He is survived by his wife and two kids.
