Merchants at the Bronx Terminal Market plan to go before a City Council subcommittee Monday to fight against their eviction.
City leaders have plans to redevelop the site and put up a shopping mall with big box stores. A judge recently ruled the merchants have no legal right to stay on the market site. Now, merchants say they are not sure what that means for the future of their businesses. They are calling on the city to withdraw the application for the mall.
Merchants also plan to argue that there is not enough time to analyze the impact of the proposed project before the February deadline. Supporters of the project say the new shopping complex would be a big benefit to the Bronx.
