Thanks to a budget surplus for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), Bronx straphangers may not see the $2 fare go up in 2007. MTA officials told lawmakers Tuesday that revenues from certain real estate taxes have exceeded expectations. If that continues, the agency may abort plans to raise the fare to $2.10. Executive Director Katherine Lapp had earlier predicted deficits for the MTA in coming years, despite the $1 billion surplus in 2005. A final decision on the possibility of a fare hike for next year will not come until November or December.
