After an ongoing dispute between the City Council and Mayor Bloomberg, Bronx immigrant parents will soon be able to benefit from expanded translation services.
The City Council and Bloomberg have agreed to increase funding for the Department of Education?s translation and interpretation unit. The increased funding will be added to the mayor?s earlier commitment of $10 million for the translation unit.
Under the new agreement, schools and the Department of Education must provide language assistance services to any parents who need them. They are also required to make educational documents, such as report cards, available in nine languages.
