Nearly 200 Bronx and city home day care workers protested Tuesday outside the Manhattan offices of the city?s Human Resources Administration.
The providers say the state gave them a raise October 1, but they were never notified. They say they just found out a few weeks ago and now want their money and back pay.
Some workers believe they weren?t told of the raise because they are not part of a union. The state sees home day care workers as independent contractors. The United Federation of Teachers says it will represent the workers. So far, 6,000 of the nearly 30,000 home day care workers in the city have signed up.
