The Broadway Commons mall in Hicksville reopened to shoppers Saturday after several months of closure.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that shopping malls could open in Phase Four as long as they install a special air filtration system meant to neutralize coronavirus.
Everyone who enters the mall must wear a mask except if the person is under the age of 2 or has a medical issue that prevents them from wearing face coverings.
There are also enhanced cleaning and sanitizing protocols, with play areas closed and self-cleaning adhesive strips have been installed on high-touch surfaces.
Capacity in the malls is limited to 50% and no seating is allowed at the food courts.
Amaka Oweazim, marketing director of Broadway Common, says people should come and see how safe they feel at the mall.
Staff members at Old Navy were welcoming customers back inside for the first time in nearly four months. Jewelry store manager Lily Pirkhamooshi says she's thrilled to finally be back at work.
The mall says stores may need up until next week to get their inventory to be able to reopen. Several popular stores, like Hallmark and Bath and Body Works, are still closed - some because of staffing shortages.
Roosevelt Field, Walt Whitman and Smith Haven malls all opened on Friday. Westfield properties will reopen next week.
The restaurants at shopping malls are open as well. They're bound by indoor dining rules, which limit capacity to 50%.
