Mechanic Alpheus Lovelace of Bridgeport has family in Jamaica, and he spent much of Monday talking with them by phone. “I am telling my family to stop making TikTok videos and focus on safety,” Lovelace said. Lovelace, who was born in Jamaica but came to the US in search of a better life, just returned home from the island nation two days ago. “The conditions were already bad and you could just tell that a hurricane was coming, by the smell of the ocean air,” he said. “I’m focused on keeping my family safe, and on urging them to act wisely when the hurricane comes," Lovelace said.
