A retired state worker from Bridgeport is running a home-based nonprofit called “Shoes That Fit” – which provides new sneakers to children who can’t afford them.
Four years ago this week, Sandy Jenkins got involved with the group based on her own personal experiences when she was a child.
Jenkins tells News 12 she remembers being self-conscious in 1962 because the shoes she wore were falling apart.
Sandy welcomed a family into her home on Sunday so she could do her part to ensure that children never experience what she went through as a child.
Jenkins says the effort is funded entirely by donations.
