Students in Bridgeport headed back to school today to mark the first day of class for the new school year.

Kids at Interdistrict Discovery Magnet School were visibly excited as they headed into the classroom.

Bridgeport Superintendent Michael Testani says families can expect a much more normal school year compared to the last few years.

He says masks are optional, and there's no contact tracing should students or staff test positive for COVID.

Testani says there is still an isolation policy for those who test positive.

Testani also says while around 200 new teachers were hired, the district is still down around 70 teachers.

But he says all classrooms are covered in terms of staffing.
