Bridgeport councilwoman selected as board member for National League of Cities

A member of the Bridgeport City Council has joined a national group that advocates for cities, and says she plans to use her position to help keep residents safe from COVID-19.
Bridgeport City Councilwoman Jeanette Herron has been selected as a board member for the National League of Cities, America's largest advocacy group for local municipalities.
She submitted a video as part of her application to sit on the group's board representing New England, and after a rigorous screening process involving a national field of applicants, she was selected.
Herron says as a caregiver for her 87-year-old mother, who suffers from dementia, the cause is deeply personal for her with so much at stake.
Officials say with a second wave of COVID-19 also hitting Bridgeport, everybody is at high risk one way or another.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal met with Herron Sunday as a first step to forming a local-federal partnership in the war on coronavirus.
She says she will focus on promoting common sense safety measures and helping to get more federal funding to fight the pandemic.
Herron also says she's excited to work with the incoming Biden administration to help establish a national policy for rapid COVID-19 testing.
