Mount Sinai South Hospital in Nassau held a conference on breast cancer on Thursday, and people like breast cancer survivor Susan Blaize-Sampeur, spoke about their experiences.
"I would say early detection is so important because if I had not gone and kept on going every year to have my mammogram, I would've been the statistic, I'm sure," Blaize-Sampeur says.
Her daughter says the family of patients are also tasked with responsibility.
"It's the responsibility of the individual that cares for the person impacted with breast cancer or who needs to go for their mammogram to encourage them," says Franchesca Blaize-Sampeur.
The Center for Women's Imaging at South Nassau is holding free breast cancer screenings through Oct. 23.
