Thousands of women who rely on Planned Parenthood for breast cancer screenings may have to turn elsewhere, as the nation's leading breast cancer charity is pulling its funding from the clinics. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation says it will no longer give funds to Planned Parenthood locations across the country. Last year, those funds totaled $680,000. Jo Ann Smith of Planned Parenthood says the funding cut was political. She says anti-abortion activists have pressured groups that fund Planned Parenthood services into putting their money elsewhere. Komen officials say it's not about politics and note that the group's priority "always will be the women" it serves.
