Cellphone cameras were rolling as a brawl erupted last week in the middle of a junior varsity basketball game at North Babylon High School.
The video shows at least 50 people tangled up in the brawl Thursday night, while school safety officials attempted to break it up. One security guard suffered a concussion in the scuffle, students say, although school officials have not commented on the guard's current condition.
It's unclear what sparked the fight, but the district superintendent says Suffolk police arrested an 18-year-old student in connection with the fight.
The superintendent added in a statement, "The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority and the district is diligent in its efforts to provide a safe and secure environment for all who enter our buildings."
The student who was arrested has been identified as Laquan Brown. School officials say he has also been suspended pending the outcome of a superintendent's hearing.
