Boy Scout troop seeks community support after trailer theft
A West Babylon Boy Scout troop is asking the community for help after discovering that its equipment trailer, containing years of hard work, memories, and essential camping gear, has been stolen.

Troop 2014 says the trailer was last seen in April behind St. Paul's Church in North Babylon, where it had been stored. When scouts returned to prepare for upcoming summer activities, the trailer was gone.
Scoutmaster Barry Spainer says the trailer was central to the troop's activities.
"Everything they work for comes from that trailer," Spainer said.
The scouts say the loss extends far beyond equipment. Inside the trailer were camping supplies, handmade projects, awards, ropes, poles and other materials accumulated through years of scouting.
Troop members estimate the stolen property was worth more than $10,000.
The theft has also drawn comparisons to a similar incident reported by News 12 in 2024, when a neighboring Boy Scout troop in Islip had its trailer stolen from behind St. Mark's Church. That theft was captured on surveillance video.
Scouts and troop leaders say they are disappointed that a group dedicated to serving the community would become the target of a theft.
In an effort to recover some of their losses, Troop 2014 will hold a fundraising car wash on Saturday at South Bay Elementary School. The scouts hope the event will help replace some of the equipment needed for future adventures and keep the troop moving forward.
