State police have released disturbing body camera footage of a Woodbury police officer who was stabbed during a routine traffic stop Thursday.

It happened before 1:30 p.m. near North Main Street. Police say Officer Tim Wright attempted to stop a Jeep for improperly displaying their license plate.

After the vehicle was pulled over, the driver, Tyler Wilmot, 31 got out and began to get verbally aggressive with Wright.

The footage shows the interaction then became physical. Police say Wilmot pulled out a knife and stabbed Wright in the neck.

He was taken to Waterbury hospital and is in stable condition.

Police say Wilmot tried to leave the scene, but was chased, tased and arrested by Officer John Covello.

He is facing several charges including attempted murder. His bond has been set to $3 million.
