A unique game of baseball is scoring a home run in Garden City when it comes to raising awareness about the blind.
The Long Island Bombers, a team of blind players, hit the field Saturday against Adelphi University students. The Adelphi students played with blindfolds to even up the game. The teams used baseballs and bases that beep. The only sighted people on the field were the catcher and pitcher, who told players when to swing.
Bombers co-founder Ted Fass, who lost his sight at age 11 due to a tumor, says he enjoys rounding the bases. Fass says he gives his all to the game, but he gets so much more in return.
