Residents in Bethpage are complaining that conditions surrounding a new Calpine power plant are not living up to promises made by officials before the plant was operational.
Residents say the plant clouds their neighborhood with excessive steam and that loud shrieking sounds pierce the air at least three times a day. They say Calpine officials promised in November that they were "good neighbors" and the community "won?t even know the plant is here."
Plant officials say they are still working with vendors about the loud noises and hope to have the problem fixed in the near future. In regards to the steam, officials say the size of the cloud is out of their control and depends on a combination of wind, temperature and humidity.
