All summer long. We've been showing off our island's best beaches and this morning we are at Smith Point County Park in Shirley and our Jen Selig and Alex Calamia. They're there right now showing us everything it has to offer. Hey, Jen. And there is so much to do here, Aaron and Rich. It's not just going in the water. There's so many amenities here with me. I have Rich. You are the park supervisor here. Talk to me about a little bit what people can do. All right. Uh Well, Smith Point is a little, I would say slice of heaven with beautiful sunrises, sunsets. We have, um, we have a bathing beach which is lifeguard protected. It's a lifeguard protected area. We have Tiki Joe's which has nightly entertainment. Uh We have a tw a memorial over here which um, you know, we back in 1996 July 17th, we uh had uh a plane go down and uh people had perished. So they made a memorial here with beautiful gardens. You can walk through that. We also have a, a boat ramp over in the marina where you can put your boat in with proper permits, easy access to the, um, to the inlet at a concession stand where the food is. So that's where we're going to go. I'll send things over now to Alex and chat a little bit more. Yeah, I'm here with John Janno, who is the Commissioner of Suffolk County Parks. And you said that the season is not over yet? But what do you mean by it? Well, what we mean by that is we're expecting some nice stretch of good weather coming. So we're going to extend beach hours for another two weekends. Wow. So past Labor Day. That is amazing. Ok. And you also said this is one of the most accessible beaches on the island. What makes it so easy for people to come to? Well, Long Island is all beach, right? And we, you know, we're surrounded by the top beaches in the world here. But to get to some of these beaches, you gotta drive out to the Hamptons, you gotta go to Jones Beach, you gotta take a ferry to Fire Island. This beach, which is the nicest beach of a mall on Long Island. Uh You can drive right to it and it is so beautiful. We're gonna show you more features of Smith Point coming up. It's Thursday, which means we are headed to another great beach here on Long Island this morning. We're making one last stop in Shirley. It's Smith Point, County Park and now Jen Selig and our Alex Kam and they are there right now, grabbing a bite to eat at the concessions there. Jenny have a little sweatshirt on right there and I love that. Your sport in Smith Point. Yeah, there is so much to do here from music, from food and yes, I am Ring and they do have these 50% off now that we're getting to the end of the season. And with me, I have Nico, you are the general manager of the concession stand and wow, look at all this food. So we got a cold lobster roll. We have a foot long hot dog. We have our Guinness fish and chips are famous chicken tenders and fries that everybody comes to the beach for. You know, you can't, we, the beach without it. Let's go back to the hot dog. Like that is the biggest hot dog I've ever seen. Brette Foot long hot dog over a bit of fries. You know, you can't go wrong and we have dessert too. Ice cream. We do have our hard scooped ice cream that everybody loves. You know, all the kids, we have soft serve ice cream as well. We got our floats, you know, get a Coke, you can get root beer. You got your novelties. We got all 50% off retail as well right now for the end of the season, something like this that I'm wearing. You could get a 50% off Joe's Smith Point hoodie crew neck. We got a few shirts left everything. So come get it this weekend before we're done. We got live music all weekend long. We got gold dust woman. One step ahead, the Caia and then go rogue on Monday for the holiday. So something for every generation and the last part if you are thirsty, they have some beverages here too. So we have a freedom which is red, white and blue, you know, for the holiday weekend. Why not? You got your world famous fire and rocket fuel and then a rum punch. Tiki Joe's rum punch with a dark rum floater on top and we know this weekend's probably be packed. Everyone wants to get that last bit of summer in across the island. You guys ready for the influx of people always ready all season long, three weeks left. Let's enjoy it and it off with the bag. I love that. All right. So we're going to head by the water, maybe go in the water. I heard Alex has a bathing suit. So you guys are just gonna have to check back in and see. All summer long. We've been showing off our island's best beaches and this morning we are at Smith Point County Park and Shirley News 12 J League and Alex Calamia there right now showing off everything that that park and beach has to offer. Hey, Jen, I with Kevin Alex, of course. And Keith and you guys, their brothers, their teachers and their life guards there for over three decades. Yes. So I'm here with Keith who's been a lifeguard for 34 years and obviously, we've had an incredible, wonderful, memorable summer, but you mentioned in all of your years of experience, 53 rescues in just one day in July. It's been a busy year. How does that compare to normal? Yeah, this has been uptick. Certainly this season with rescues due in part, I think for a lot of thunderstorms in July so that, you know, caused the rips to increase tremendously. And one particular day we did have in July 7th, I believe we had 53 rescues on that particular day. So it's exciting for us, the guards like it, we're here for, you know, to protect the patrons of Suffolk County and we're happy to do it. And that is what you guys are here for. And I know after Labor Day you're still here for two more weekends. Weekends, only water temperatures though. 73 degrees. Jen, I'm taking a dip. It's local summer starting next week. So good video of that. We have to get a metallic c when he gets out because that, I'm a towel guy now. Huh? What's your favorite part about? I see everyone going and having a good time. Yeah, the summer's been great. The weather's been great. Um, I would say the most, the most fun I had the summer was watching, we hired uh 20 new lifeguards and watching them really grow and, and come along, like Keith said, with those rescues, having 53 rescues, those guys grow so much and we were able to be a part of that and see their maturity throughout the summer. It's a very important job and we are all thankful for you guys to be out here all summer long to do this. How is the water bud? It actually feels really good. It's cold out here. But that water is warm. Best kept secret is that summer is not over yet. Let's get back to you. Oh, my goodness, Alex. Wow, that is a, I fully submerged. Oh, that is so great.

Well, every Thursday we highlight something that makes Long Island so great. Our beaches, of course, earlier, Alex Calamy and I checked out Smith Point Park. We know Suffolk County has some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. We all agree. And same with the county executive Ed Roma too. Oh, absolutely. And here we're at Smith Point Beach, which is the easiest beach to access ocean beach right here. Beautiful ocean. Come right down William Floyd Parkway, which connects with the expressway and sunrise highway and boom, you're at the beach. It's, it's a short travel. This is why this is probably the most popular beach in Suffolk County. And there's more to do than just go in the water. Absolutely. Although I asked the guy next to me because he took a swim this morning. He did, he was telling me the ocean was 73 degrees and he loved it. I sure did. I really, really did. And like you said, though, if you maybe don't want to go in the water this time of year, what else can you do at the beach? Well, we have Tiki Joe. We have a playground. We have picnic areas. This is a great place to come, relax distress, enjoy, enjoy Mother Nature and that we will do because even though summer unofficially ends on Labor Day, you are saying that all of the beaches stay open for two more weekends, right? We're going to keep the beaches open for two more weekends. The lifeguards will be here, come and enjoy Suffolk County, enjoy its beaches. Enjoy Smith Point. Perfect.
