6ds agoThe 9/11 memorial in Nesconset is one of a kind. It’s dedicated to those who lost their lives to illnesses derived from the toxic pile at ground zero.
The 9/11 Responders Remembered Park was first dedicated in 2010, and approximately 300 names are added each year. Now, it’s running out of space.
A benefit concert at Hoyt Farm Nature Preserve in Commack Thursday raised funds to build a new wall.
Judi Simmons lost her husband, FDNY Firefighter Martin Simmons in 2008 to a 9/11-related illness. She now serves as president of the 9/11 Responders Remembered Park.
“For the families to have their loved ones continue to be honored, I know for me it means the world and I’m sure it does to all of them, as well," says Simmons.
Funds from the event will also go toward the general maintenance and upkeep of the memorial.
