He says there are now 662 confirmed cases, and two additional deaths - bringing the total in the county to nine.
One of the deaths was a woman in her 80s who died at Huntington Hospital. The other was woman in her late 80s who died at Peconic Landing Hospital.
The county executive says the rise was expected since testing has been ramped up. He says more than 1,500 people are awaiting results after being tested at a mobile site outside Stony Brook University Hospital.
"We are engaged in this effort because it's about saving lives," says Bellone.
The governor on Saturday morning announced that Long Island would be getting 500,000 N95 masks. Bellone says he took another measure to get more supplies to medical professional through a donor drive. He’s asking individuals and businesses that have personal protective equipment to donate them on Monday at the Suffolk County Fire Academy in Yaphank.
Bellone also says all non-emergency incidents that require law enforcement will be mandated to be reported online beginning on Monday. He says it’s an effort to keep first reponders “on the battlefield” against COVID-19. Those incidents include criminal mischief, minor traffic incident and identify theft.
