Police are looking for the thief who stole a specially inscribed bell from a playground that's dedicated to the victims of the Sandy Hook massacre.
An 8-inch brass bell was stolen from the playground at Masone Beach on Waterford Road in Island Park over the weekend. The bell was inscribed with the number 26, for the 26 victims of the elementary school shooting, as well as the saying, "Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings."
Residents of the Island Park community are outraged that someone would steal the bell from the park, which is one of 26 playgrounds in the tri-state area that was built to honor the shooting victims.
Nassau police are urging anyone with information on the theft to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
