A Bay Shore High School teacher's assistant accused of raping a student from the school was ordered held on $80,000 bond at his arraignment Friday.
Marcus Johnson was arrested on Thursday night by detectives from the Special Victims Section for allegedly having intercourse with a 15-year-old student from the school. According to police, the abuse started when the victim was 14 years old.
Johnson, 27, of Bay Shore, works as a teacher's assistant for children with autism, but officials say the victim was not one of his students. He was charged with rape and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Prosecutors say he lured the young girl to a home that he shared with his mother and siblings, which is within walking distance of the school.
The Bay Shore School District would not comment on his status. However, in a statement the district told News 12 that when they became aware of the alleged improper relationship, they immediately investigated and turned it over to the police.
Johnson's attorney did not have any comment after the arraignment. He is due back on court on Oct. 4.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Special Victims Section at 631-852-6531.
