Residents on Spur Drive in Bay Shore say their busy street puts more than just drivers at risk.Residents say the problem stems from cars that drive too fast along their residential street, which connects busy Fifth Avenue and Brentwood Road. Many homeowners tell the same horror story of cars slamming into their property. Irene Brown estimates that her house has been hit more than a dozen times by cars.
?I don't even put insurance claims in any more because they don't even honor them because there's been so many,? says Brown.
Residents say the most dangerous part of the road is a location where it curves. They say many cars lose control, slam into a corner and get into accidents. One man says that spot is where the bus stop is located, but he won?t let his daughter stand there for fear of her getting hit.
Islip town officials did a traffic study and say they are taking several steps to solve the problem. Islip Town Supervisor Phil Nolan says the lanes will be narrowed and markings will be painted to help slow drivers down. Nolan says if that doesn?t work, the town will consider putting in a stop sign.
