Long Islanders are stepping up
with a donation drive in Bay Shore to help the victims of fatal fire in the
Bronx.
The nonprofit organization
Jibaritos with Troops responds to humanitarian relief efforts.
"A lot of people from the
community reached out to us and stopped by last night and today," says
Jose Gonzalez who works with the nonprofit. "We plan to go Thursday night
to assist the families."
They are asking for personal
hygiene items and essential items such as socks, cold weather gear,
children's clothing, toothpaste and more.
Suffolk police were among those
who stopped and donated their costs.
"We love to see the good
supporting of our community always coming together during these hard
times," says Amee Hernandez, who also works with the nonprofit
The collection drive is
happening at 11 Madison Ave.
The donation is going on until
11 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
