Residents in Bay Ridge say they want a fast ferry connection from south Brooklyn to Staten Island.
A petition on Change.org has already collected over 3,500 signatures out the 5,000 needed to submit it to the NYC Economic Development Corporation.
Brooklyn Borough president and mayoral candidate Eric Adams and Staten Island Borough President James Oddo have joined with the community and other local leaders calling on the NYC EDC to expand the service.
The NYC EDC tells News 12 a connection from Brooklyn to Staten Island is already on their radar. Right now, based on a 2019 feasible study, they are focusing on connecting Coney Island to Manhattan and adding a ferry stop at Ferry Point Park in the Bronx.
The hope is the added service will increase access to jobs, education and supporting small businesses in Brooklyn and Staten Island.
