Babylon Town Supervisor Steve Bellone is calling for state hearings in a continuing effort to shut down a waste-transfer facility in Farmingdale he says is illegal.
Coastal Distribution LLC prepares and processes 5,000 train carloads of mostly commercial trash per year for shipment to Ohio. But Bellone claims the transfer station is actually a garbage carter masquerading as a rail facility
Coastal claims it is covered by a federal railway act, which exempts it from most local regulations.
A federal court forbid the town from closing the facility two years ago.
