A 28-year-old man is accused of opening fire at United Veterans Beacon House, a shelter in Bay Shore.
Authorities said Clifton Dent, a resident there, tried to enter an office at the location Thursday night following an earlier verbal dispute, then fired a handgun through the office door.
He allegedly left the building and fired the gun multiple times toward a security guard who was in the parking lot.
