A new state audit found that the Village of Islandia paid nearly $150,000 to eight employees that was not properly approved.

The Islandia village fire marshal approved nearly $89,000 worth of overtime for himself without providing any proof he worked the extra hours. His actual salary was around $122,000.

The village's building inspector also approved his own overtime for nearly $54,000 without documentation.

A spokesperson for the Village of Islandia said, "The village fully cooperated with the audit and, while the building inspector was authorized to work overtime, most of the overtime hours submitted by the fire marshal were not.

The fire marshal had a disciplinary hearing in front of a judge. After hearing the charges, he requested to resign and the Village referred the matter to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office."
