A
new audit released by state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli found that more than $1 million worth of track equipment is missing from the LIRR's database.
The comptroller's office looked at track inspection cars, cranes and other construction equipment.
The auditors sampled 30 of 243 pieces of equipment and most had missing or incomplete ownership documents.
The LIRR was also unable to find eight of those in the database - that's an estimated cost of $1.15 million.
