Nassau police announced arrests Thursday in a shooting that occurred at a 6-year-old?s birthday party in Hempstead last month.
Andre Scott, 23, of Elmont, was fatally shot in the head, while a 9-year-old girl and 19-year-old man were shot in the arm. Police say some of the party guests spilled out into a second-floor hallway of the Jackson Avenue apartment, where Scott was killed.
Rashawn Pender, 20, Theron Rhodes, 17, both of Hempstead, and Derek Cullum, 19, of Roosevelt, were charged with second-degree murder. Pender, police say, pulled the trigger. He is also charged with criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of second-degree assault.
According to Nassau Police Detective Lt. John Azzata, the three men believed Scott had a large sum of money on him and wanted to rob him.
Pender has only been out of jail for less than a year, according to police. He has four prior violent felony arrests including assault and possession of a firearm.
