The man police say is responsible for killing a Uniondale teen last December was arraigned on murder charges Thursday.
Police say 22-year-old Grady Hampton, also of Uniondale, shot and killed 19-year-old Kareem Sapp on Northgate Drive in Uniondale. They say Sapp drove to Hampton?s house on Dec. 18 to give a ride to a female friend, who was Hampton?s girlfriend.
Hampton was jealous, according to police, and confronted Sapp outside the home. He allegedly fired six shots.
Hampton?s family maintains he is innocent. The 22-year-old is charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bail at the Nassau County Jail.
Police say it took so long to make an arrest because of the culture of fear surrounding witnesses of crimes who come forward. They also say more and more people are withholding information about a crime to later use it as a bargaining chip when they themselves get in trouble.
