Police say armed intruders used duct tape to restrain a man and woman during a Valley Stream home invasion robbery that is believed to have been targeted.
Police say the 34-year-old male victim was leaving his home on East Hawthorne Avenue when he was approached by two men who demanded to know the location of a gold chain. The victim was then bound with duct tape and brought back into his house, along with a 36-year-old woman who was already inside the home. She was allegedly sexually assaulted in addition to being tied up.
One of the suspects was armed with a black handgun and the other had a rifle and a duffel bag, police say. The suspects ransacked the home and stuffed cash and jewelry into the bag before fleeing on foot, according to investigators.
The male victim was eventually able to call 911.
One of the suspects is described by police as a black male who stands about 6 feet tall with a slim build. He wore a black sweatshirt, black jeans and black boots. Police say the second suspect was a black male with a medium build who stood about 5 feet 7 inches tall. He also wore a black sweatshirt, black jeans and black boots, and wore a dark-colored mask that covered his mouth.
Neighbors were shocked to hear about the incident on their street. Some said they would take extra precautions.
Police say they believe the incident was targeted, and was not perpetrated at random.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
