An elevator at New Life Church in Hempstead Village has not worked since April due to water pooling at its base, according to Senior Pastor Katherine Corbett.
It has been drained every day for two months and several plumbers surveyed the damage. It was determined that the continuous flow of water is from an underground stream. The church was told it could possibly have come from a shift during the April 5 earthquake.
“It is not a water main…if it was, the village would have to fix it, but it is just natural ground water,” said Mayor Waylyn Hobbs.
The church told News 12 they are welcome to any help and are hoping this issue will be resolved as soon as possible.
