Nine guinea pigs were rescued in East Setauket Wednesday evening, animal advocates say.

Strong Island Animal Rescue tells News 12 that they worked with some volunteers to find the animals.

They used a thermal camera to search the area and set up a feeding station to help lure the animals in.

The rescue says the guinea pigs would not have been able to survive on their own in the wild.
