The family of Gabby Petito has been awarded $3 million in a wrongful death lawsuit.

The suit was filed against the estate of Petito's boyfriend, Brian Laundrie.

An attorney for the Petito family says the money will help in their endeavors in the Gabby Petito Foundation.

Petito was reported missing on Sept.11, 2021, and her body was found days later in Grand Teton National Park.

Laundrie was later found dead in a Florida nature preserve of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Laundrie was the only person of interest in Petito's death.
